Happy 4th of July from The Sunshine State

July 2012

Then join hand in hand, brave Americans all!  By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall. – John Dickinson

Epcot 4th of July

Epcot’s 4th of July show starts off with the Illuminations Reflections of Earth firework show that can best be viewed from the entrance of World Showcase just left of the gift shops on the way to the Mexico Pavilion. Immediately following Illuminations, Epcot blasts 4 minutes of almost uninterrupted pyrotechnics over historic audibles of ask not what not your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country. The grand finale is led by Glory, Glory, Hallelujah (Lay My Burden Down) that starts out at the American Pavilion and then flows into the entire center of World Showcase Lagoon. The fireworks begin at 10 PM.

Magic Kingdom 4th of July

The Magic Kingdom celebrates America with traditional American songs playing with fireworks blasting behind Cinderella Castle with such listings as She’ll be Coming ’round the Mountain and This Land is Your Land. The finale is reserved for the United States Star-Spangled Banner National Anthem with firework bombs bursting behind the Castle while they are being sung to bursting in air. Part of the firework show also features a set full of screamers. The Magic Kingdom show can be seen on both July 3, 2012 and July 4, 2012. The fireworks begin both nights at 9 PM.

Disney Hollywood Studios

The Fourth of July is one of the few times during the year that Hollywood Studios has fireworks behind the Sorcerer Mickey Hat. In 2011, Hollywood Studios introduced a new rock and roll Independence Day firework show with fireworks choreographed to live music by their Mulch, Sweat, and Shears house band called “Rockin’ 4th of July Celebration” that covered songs from Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more.
Some of the cover songs from the 2011 show included Blue Suede Shoes, Great Balls of Fire, Give Me All Your Loving, I’m a Believer, Don’t Stop Believing, Thanks for the Memories, Smooth, Lithium, Even Flow, Look for America, Good Love, Born to Run, Ramblin’ Man, and Free Bird. The fireworks started at 9:45 PM in 2011. We will update this article if the fireworks are confirmed for Hollywood Studios again in 2012.

Rocco

Hi  Friends-
Rocco has been enjoying Florida with Hershey, me, Liz and Dusty. He just turned 8 a couple weeks ago.  Unfortunately, Rocco is on an IV at the pet hospital clinging to life. He started acting lethargic recently and they’ve now diagnosed that his kidneys are shutting down. We searched for veterinarians in Atlanta,  the vet has been wonderful and has determined to exhaust all efforts to see if he’ll respond to treatment. As I am writing this there is no improvement. He is comfortable but not eating or drinking. We are going to visit him now and would like to believe that he is stable enough to come home with us, even if it is just for a day. I’ll try to keep you posted but I must admit this is difficult for me- and for Liz and Dusty, too.
I collected photos that I’ve found of Rocco:and I really don’t know how much time we have left with him. Every day — any day — that we have left with our Rocco is a precious gift. He’s a tough little guy and he needs as many people rooting for him as possible. PLEASE ROOT FOR MY ROCCO!  And PLEASE send out your positive thoughts for a miracle for my little white furry friend.

Florida’s housing market continues on positive track in Feb.

ORLANDO, Fla. – March 21, 2012 – Pending sales and median prices rose, while the inventory of homes for sale dropped in Florida’s housing market in February, according to the latest housing data released by Florida Realtors®. SEO Boca Raton fl can help the people who are selling the house appear on the top of search post so that they can have more people view their website. We also have Sydney emergency plumber on call and at your service.

“Growing optimism about the economy, gains in the state’s jobs market and continued low mortgage rates are generating interest in Florida real estate,” says 2012 Florida Realtors President Summer Greene, regional manager of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Florida 1st in Fort Lauderdale. “Increased statewide pending sales for both single family existing homes, up 36.1 percent, and for townhouse-condo properties, up 19.8 percent, show that buyers are encouraged by these positive signs.”

Pending sales refer to contracts that are signed but not yet completed or closed; closed sales typically occur 30 to 90 days after sales contracts are written.

The statewide median sales price for single-family existing homes in February was $134,000, up 7.2 percent from the year-ago figure, according to data from Florida Realtors Industry Data and Analysis department and vendor partner 10K Research and Marketing. The statewide median for townhome-condo properties was $95,000, up 15.9 percent over Feb. 2011.

The national median sales price for existing single-family homes in January 2012 was $154,400, which is 2.6 percent below the previous year, according to the National Association of Realtors® (NAR). In California, the statewide median sales price for single-family existing homes in January was $268,280; in Massachusetts, it was $265,000; and in Maryland, it was $219,500.

The median is the midpoint; half the homes sold for more, half for less. Housing industry analysts note that sales of foreclosures and other distressed properties continue to downwardly distort the median price because they generally sell at a discount relative to traditional homes.

Statewide sales of existing single-family homes totaled 14,270 in February 2012, down 4.8 percent compared to the year-ago figure. Looking at Florida’s year-to-year comparison for sales of townhomes/condos, a total of 7,545 units sold statewide last month, down 16 percent from those sold in February 2011. NAR reported the national median existing condo price in January 2012 was $156,600.

In February, the months supply of inventory stood at 6.2 for single-family homes and at 6.3 for the condos/townhomes, according to Florida Realtors.

“The overall picture that these statistics show is of a stabilizing housing market,” said Florida Realtors Chief Economist Dr. John Tuccillo. “While closed sales are down, so are listings and so is inventory. These are signs of a market that’s moving from being a buyer’s market to a balanced market.

“For the past year, median sales prices have been slowly rising; and over a longer period of time, prices have really flattened out – again, signs of an improving housing market.”

The interest rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.89 percent in February 2012, down from the 4.95 percent average during the same month a year earlier, according to Freddie Mac.
